Former B'ville police chief promoted

John Balloni of Baldwinsville has been appointed the new civil department chief for the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department.

Balloni, who has more than 30 years of experience, stepped down from his recent position as the Onondaga County Department of Emergency communications commissioner to join Sheriff Walsh's command staff. He will replace Chief William Peverly who retired May 28.

Balloni's career started in 1977 when he became a Baldwinsville Police Officer. In 1987, Balloni was promoted to the rank of sergeant and in 1993 became the Baldwinsville Police Chief. In 2000, Balloni left the Baldwinsville Police Department to become Onondaga County's Department of Emergency Communications deputy commissioner before becoming the commissioner in 2006.

Balloni will now be responsible for managing the Sheriff's Office Civil/Administrative Department and will be an integral part of Sheriff Walsh's command staff.
