The Baldwinsville library is "Barging Into Baldwinsville" to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Baldwinsville Lock 24. Building up to the Rotary Club's Seneca River Days, the Baldwinsville Public Library offered a Lock 24 Trivia Contest.
The Lock 24 Trivia Contest required entrants to answer 10 trivia questions and turn their answers in to the Baldwinsville library before Seneca River Days. The questions were difficult and required some research to answer. The entries with the most correct answers were entered into a prize drawing, held at 4 pm at the library's Seneca River Days booth in Mercer Park, across the Seneca River from Lock 24.
The first winner, Peyton Anderson, will choose from three prizes: a Barge Into Baldwinsville hat, a copy of Sue McManus' new book Greater Baldwinsville, or a grab-bag of historical Baldwinsville goodies. The second winner is Katie Weaver, who will get second pick, and the third winner is Kellen Albrecht. Congratulations to these three winners; they had the most correct answers of all contestants, with nine out of ten correct answers!
No one got Question 4 right. Most entries said the dam over the Seneca River at Baldwinsville is 10 feet high, but the stone dam was built to be 14 feet high, and has been extended since then!
The library also offered a Lock 24 Scavenger Hunt during Seneca River Days for anyone who stopped by the library's booth. The Scavenger Hunt asked just six questions designed so people could answer them at Mercer Park or by walking over to Lock 24.
Everyone who returned their form to the booth received a library pencil or a Barge Into Baldwinsville button. All correct entries were entered into a drawing at 4 p.m. for a Barge Into Baldwinsville T-shirt. Congratulations to the winner of the T-shirt, Michelle Ekross.
