Laura Ponticello is a name that is quickly becoming synonymous with the phrase "giving to others."
Ponticello, creator of Laura's List: Books for Women, has achieved a lot in the last few years -- Laura's List has hit the two-year mark, it has 5,000 followers, a market reach of 30,000 people ... and in 2009 Ponticello and friends raised $20,000 for non-profit organizations that help women and children.
To celebrate the good will of others, Ponticello will be hosting a Laura's List: Books for Women Celebration Extravaganza Party at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, Jan. 27, at the Mirbeau Wine Bar.
"As we enter the New Year, a time for a rebirth exists," Ponticello said. "2010, in particular, is the beginning of an opportunity to redefine ourselves, to take stake in our own health and to find time just for ourselves."
According to the National Women's Health Institute, even 15 minutes a day for yourself can reduce stress, invoke calmness and encourage happiness.
"That's why I am inviting women to throw away their worries and join me in a celebration event, to commemorate 'being woman,'" Ponticello said.
The night is sure to be memorable as worries are thrown aside and replaced with fireside chats and toasts are said. The night will include coupons and a raffle, and also benefit the Skaneateles Ecumenical Food Pantry with donations from guests.
"I am so proud of the collective action this community and women across the nation, in supporting my movement, have achieved, it's time to pause, raise a toast and give thanks," Ponticello said. "Recently I visited India, where many are hungry in the streets. This awareness caused me to take action, by using this Laura's List venue to help our own in need during the winter months -- a portion of the event will support Skaneateles Food Pantry."
