Brookfield man charged with multiple traffic charges

Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley reported that Travis A. Buchanan, 31, of Beaver Creek Rd., Brookfield, was charged with multiple Vehicle and Traffic charges after he crashed his four wheel ATV in an apparent attempt to flee a Deputy's patrol car.

At about 2:16 a.m., Jan. 22, a Deputy Sheriff on patrol observed Buchanan on Skaneateles Turnpike in the town of Brookfield operating a four wheel ATV on the highway. The deputy activated the emergency roof lights in an attempt to stop the ATV when Buchanan allegedly accelerated in what appeared to be an attempt to flee a Deputy after the ATV entered Church Street.

Within seconds after entering Church Street, the ATV operated by Buchanan rounded a curve, left the highway and flipped over, ejecting Buchanan.

Buchanan complained of should pain and was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica for treatment.

Buchanan was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, both misdemeanors. In addition, he was issued summons for Operating an unregistered and uninsured ATV, Speed not reasonable nor prudent, unlawful operation on a public highway and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Buchanan is to answer to the charges in the town of Brookfield Court at a later date.
