Nadeau to be honored at appreciation dinner

The Canastota Area Association of Churches 30th Annual Appreciation Dinner for Canastota, Lincoln and Wampsville Volunteers is scheduled for Jan. 23 at the Rusty Rail. The Appreciation Night is to recognize the Canastota Firemen, Lincoln Firemen, Wampsville Firemen, Old Time Firemen and members of the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service.

One member from each organization has been selected to be recognized during the event. This is the fourth of four profiles featuring the award recipients.

Sheldon Nadeau of Canastota -- Wampsville Firemen

Q: How old are you?

A: 60

Q: How long have you been a volunteer?

A: Since I was 16

Q: What is your occupation?

A: Operating engineer

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: Hunting, fishing now and again

Q: Why did you become a volunteer?

A: It's a familiy tradition and to serve the community and to do my civic duty.

Q: What is your favorite part about volunteering?

A: Just the camaraderie with the guys. That's the biggest thing.

Q: Do you have a moment while volunteering that sticks out?

A: Not any one. There's been lots of things over the years but they are all about equal.

Q: If asked, what do you think the other volunteers you work with would say about you?

A: Fairly good natured, dedicated and there when needed.

Q: What do you think of being selected for this recognition?

A: It's a nice honor.

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

A: My general theme right now is we need more younger blood in the organizations in general, whether it's fire or ambulance. We need more participation and volunteers.
