Red Cross to open blood donor center in Liverpool

Volunteers needed

The American Red Cross Blood Services, New York-Penn Region is pleased to announce that it will soon open a blood donation center at 7359 Oswego Road in Liverpool.

The center will serve whole blood donors and apheresis donors, and is in need of several community volunteers to help with various duties at the center. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to call 315-234-2243, or visit redcrossblood.org/volunteers.

Several informational events will be held:

* From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday Jan. 25 to Thursday Jan. 28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Bryant and Stratton College (near the student lounge), Liverpool.

* From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday Jan. 29, Liverpool Public Library (refreshments provided). A training session follows from 4:30 to 5:30.

* From 9 a.m. to noon Monday Feb. 1, YMCA on Wetzel Road, Liverpool. A training session follows from noon to 1 p.m.

Volunteer positions include registration desk and canteen/refreshment hosts, and drivers.

To begin the process, an individual must fill out an application which can be picked up at the informational events and at the Syracuse Blood Donation Center on 636 South Warren Street until March 3. Starting March 5 applications can be picked up at 7359 Oswego Road. Applications are always available at the Red Cross Chapter, 220 Herald Place, Syracuse.

The American Red Cross Blood Services, New York-Penn Region collects blood in 63 counties of New York and Pennsylvania, comprising a population of 8.6 million people. It serves approximately 101 hospitals, including 13 major trauma centers, numerous metro emergency rooms as well as smaller rural hospitals; and must distribute nearly 2,000 units of blood each day to meet the needs of area patients. The region employs some 1,100 individuals in operating locations in Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Poughkeepsie, Rochester and Syracuse.
