A Syracuse Police Department cruiser had an electrical short which caused the airbags to deploy unexpectedly.
About 9:15 a.m. this morning, an officer was operating his vehicle while on patrol when he heard a loud bang and the passenger side airbag deployed. He then began slowing his vehicle to a stop at the intersection of East Water St and Pine St. when the driver's side airbag also deployed unexpectedly.
The Syracuse Fire Dept. responded, but did not have to take any action. The officer received an abrasion to his arm from the deploying airbag and was evaluated by medical personnel as a precautionary measure.
The cause of the short is under investigation.
