B'ville: Growing lesson bears lettuce

At Ray Middle School, seventh-graders Rachel Miller, left, Jeremy Schutz, center, and Cicely Ekross make up the technology department's hydroponic/aquaponic team. Since the beginning of the school year, the trio has maintained Ray's hydroponic and aquaponic systems during their study halls. On a daily basis, the dedicated students clean fish tank filters, feed the fish and care for and harvest plants. The students are growing hydroponic lettuce to sell to the school's staff members to raise money that will fund an educational summer trip to Oswegatchie Camp in the Adirondacks.
