Senior of the Week

With school back in session after winter break, Liverpool High School senior Iryonna Scruggs was named the Senior of the Week to kick of the New Year.

Scruggs is the vice president of Umoja, a club that advocates diversity and unity, and she is a member of the LHS Step Team and Deca.

Outside of school, Scruggs serves the community as the vice president of the NAACP Youth Chapter. She is also an active member of the Syracuse University Science and Technology Entry Program and the secretary of the Rochester-Syracuse AME Zion District.

Her awards are a testament to her hard work in academics with a first place standing in the Regional Science Bowl. Scruggs is also a Regional Deca winner.

Scruggs said she also enjoys volunteering in the Big Buddy program at Liverpool Elementary.

When she isn't in school or enjoying her favorite subject, math, Scruggs said she enjoys singing and dancing.

Her family has inspired her determination and focus on community leadership and academics, she said.

"They [my family] inspire me to be more than what I am," Scuggs said.
