Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies investigate serious car crash

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that sheriff's deputies are investigating a personal injury auto accident that occurred early this morning Jan. 9 on Route 31 in the Town of Clay.

At approximately 7:15 am the sheriff's office received a call of a car crash involving a vehicle that had rolled over. The investigation revealed that a 2002 Buick Century was traveling west on Route 31 in the area of Stearns Road being operated by Matthew A. Jones, 19, of Hart Road, Baldwinsville.

The vehicle crossed over into the oncoming lane, and became airborne after hitting a snowbank. The vehicle landed upside down in a ditch and the driver was trapped in the vehicle until the Clay Fire Department responded and extricated him. Jones was transported by TLC to Upstate Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by sheriff's deputies and the Onondaga County Sheriff's Accident Investigation Team.
