Beaver Lake introduces Eco Club for Kids

Beaver Lake Nature Center is hosting a new kids' Eco Club for fifth to seventh graders. This club is for kids who enjoy being outside and learning about nature. Club members will go snowshoeing looking for animal tracks and traces, build snow caves and cut ice on the lake. The club will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays Jan. 23, Feb. 6 and 20. On Feb. 27, there will be an overnight in the Visitor Center. This is the evening before the full moon, so a night hike will be part of the fun. Advanced registration is required. The price of this program is $20.

Try snowshoeing clinics

Beaver Lake Nature Center will offer a snowshoeing clinic at 12:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in January and February. This clinic will include instructions and a short snowshoe hike to provide participants with a feel for this rapidly growing outdoor activity. Families with little or no snowshoeing experience will especially enjoy this one-hour introduction. Registration is required beginning at 8 a.m. the day of the hike and space is limited. This program will be offered only when snow conditions are acceptable. Call the Nature Center at 638-2519 that day to register and check conditions. Snowshoes are available to rent for $3.
