Service of quiet contemplation offered to community
An ecumenical service of Compline, the final orders of the day in the Christian tradition, will be held at 8 p.m. Feb. 28. at Liverpool First United Methodist Church.
"The quiet, contemplative service will invoke God's presence for a restful sleep," said Linda Loomis, the church's concert series coordinator.
James O. Welsch, director of music ministries at Liverpool First United Methodist, will serve as officiant and cantor. He leads an ecumenical choir to sing chants,
responses and hymns as worshippers pray and mediate in the silent, candle-lit sanctuary.
"This service is for everyone in the community who seeks a peaceful time of worship," says Welsch. "We live busy lives in a noisy world. Compline gives us an opportunity to come in quiet reverence to hear God's 'still small voice' speak in our hearts."
Additional services, all scheduled for 8 p.m. at the "Church With the Purple Doors," will be offered Feb. 28, March 28, April 25, May 30 and June 27.
