After two years in business, owner Jennifer Cohen announced Feb. 1 the closing of her caf (c), Thanks a Latte Espresso and Dessert Bar, located in Manlius Mart on Fayette Street.
"We are joining the ranks of many other wonderful businesses that have had to close their doors during this economy," Cohen said. "We are now officially closed for business."
When Cohen first opened the doors to her caf (c) in December 2007, her coffee menu included house blends to lattes and espressos. Herbal, black, green and chocolate teas were also on hand. Gourmet cakes, cookies and muffins lined a mouth-watering dessert case.
Cohen also wanted to cater to the health-conscious. She offered high-end quality products, served vegetarian dishes and was one of few local places that served gluten-free foods.
Additionally, she wanted Thanks a Latte to be family-friendly and a safe haven for teens to go at night.
"When someone comes in, they should feel like a part of the family," Cohen said in a prior interview with the Eagle Bulletin. "They should feel like a good friend."
As a small business owner, she said the last two years have been an amazing run, but she's already looking ahead.
"I'm off to begin my next adventure -- being the mom my kids deserve, and cultivating the wonderful friendships we've been missing out on for two years now," Cohen said. "Coffee, anyone?"
Cohen was raised in DeWitt and now resides in Manlius with her husband Phil and their four children.
