B'ville students qualify for spelling bee

On Nov. 15, the Baldwinsville Central School District held it Oral Spelling Bee Championships to determine 14 finalists for the Post Standard's written portion of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will be given on Jan. 22.

The winner of the district spelling bee was Taylor Veith, an eighth-grader at Durgee Junior High School. Gabriella Hahn, a seventh-grader at Ray Middle School, placed second, and Gabrielle Yates, also a seventh-grader, placed third.

Besides the top three finalists, the other Baldwinsville students who have qualified to take the written test in January are: Madeline Gaus, McNamara Elementary; Mitchell Gage, William Grindle, Hunter Jones, Colleen Magowan, Zoe Ricks and Lily Sochan-Rosen, Ray Middle School; Morgan Felberbaum, Gabriel Goulding, Molly McKeigue and Shelley Verma, Durgee Junior High School.
