The Skaneateles Library will hold its first ever "One for the Books" event on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 6 to 10 p.m. This is a novel fundraiser designed to promote reading and to raise funds to support library programs and the acquisition of new materials.
The event will be a one-night book club where the participant chooses from 16 intriguing books. Based on the book choice, a participant will dine at the home of one of the volunteer hosts and have a discussion led by the author or a speaker with a unique and interesting perspective on the work.
Once participants rank their three book choices in order of preference and send in payment, they will learn within a short time, which book they will be discussing.
A week or two before the event, the guest will discover who is hosting their dinner party, the location and the speaker. What will remain a mystery is who will be sitting next to you sharing a similar appreciation for a chosen book.
A guest will find new insights on a favorite book, get their neighbor's take on it, share a great meal and support The Skaneateles Library.
The cost to participate in the "One for the Books" fundraiser is $100 per person. Those who are interested should visit the library, call 685-5135 or sign up online at skaneateleslibrary.org. There are a limited number of spots for the event due to the seating capacity of the volunteer hosts.
