The Cazenovia Police Department has donated more than a dozen bicycles to Community Bikes, a not-for-profit organization that places bicycles with families in Madison County who can't afford them.

Police Clerk Sue Dady said that the bikes had been found and turned in to the department over the past two years. After attempting to locate the owners, the department requested approval from the village trustees to donate the bikes.

"We're pleased that the bikes will go to families in our county that can make good use of them," said Dady.

Community Bikes coordinator Chuck Fox said that the program has many requests for bikes yet to be filled.

"We're delighted with this very thoughtful contribution," said Fox.

He noted that Community Bikes has placed nearly 300 bikes this year, and is working to serve more families in Madison County. The program also aims to send up to 200 new bikes to the Malawi Children's Village in Africa.
