DOT Foods in Liverpool is celebrating its 50th anniversary by giving back to the community.
The food redistributor donated 270,000 pounds of food to 11 regional Feeding America food banks near each of DOT 's eight distribution centers. Equivalent to $315,000, items included canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, tuna, beans, rice and cereal.
The East Syracuse site alone received more than 20,000 pounds of food last week valued at $35,000.
"We are very thankful that DOT Foods has been a local community partner for several years, said Peter Ricardo, Food Bank of CNY director of special nutrition projects.
"They support us in an ongoing capacity via food donations, temporary use of space and logistical consultation regarding warehousing and distribution.
The donation came as part of a national partnership between DOT and the Food Bank 's national organization, Feeding America, to commemorate DOT 's 50 years in business. The food arrived in a "Delivering the Dream customized tractor trailer, designed for the occasion.
"This product will be quickly distributed by the Food Bank of Central New York to over 300 emergency relief programs across central and northern New York counties, Ricardo said. "A heartfelt thanks to the national office of DOT Foods for sponsoring this great program, and as always, thank you to the great team at DOT, Syracuse, whom we get to work with all the time.
