Skaneateles Community Center changes name - Y

The Skaneateles Community Center is officially "The Skaneateles YMCA and Community Center." The Board of Directors of the Skaneateles Recreational Charitable Trust (SRCT) is excited to have the YMCA on board to manage the Skaneateles Y.

Dorothea Hughes, branch director of the Skaneateles Y, and her team are eager and ready to meet the recreational needs of the Skaneateles Community. Representatives from the national YMCA organization are meeting one-on-one with community leaders to determine what changes might be made to programming and facilities to further improve the operation.

The YMCA organization has been around for 151 years. The YMCA is open to all who wish to be a part of it as members, community participants, volunteers or staff in the myriad of programs offered.

The Y's mission statement is simple: The YMCA puts Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA turns away no one due to an inability to pay.

Current and future Skaneateles members will have access to all of the facilities at the Skaneateles Y located at 97 State St., in Skaneateles, as well as those at the Auburn YMCA, located at 27 William St., Auburn.

All memberships are inclusive, allowing full use of the pool, rink and fitness center at the Skaneateles Y, as well as free babysitting and free aquatic and group exercise classes, including group cycling, yoga and zumba.

The Auburn YMCA provides access to racquetball and squash courts, gyms, basketball, volleyball, summer day and resident camp and youth sports programs.

Additional lap swim times, expanded babysitting hours and more group swim lessons are some immediate benefits you can expect to see at the Skaneateles Y.

Membership fees range from $15/month for a youth up to $64/month for a Household/Family, and everything in between to accommodate young adults, senior citizens and individual adults. The Skaneateles Y will honor existing prepaid annual memberships through their expiration.

Stop by and see Membership Services Director, Stephanie Bales, and her staff or call 685-2266. They will be glad to assist you.
