Beaver Lake Nature Center will host the 7th annual Upstate Chiropractic Beaver Lake Run on August 15.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the main building at Beaver Lake. The event ends around noon.
There are four different races: the Fun Walk, the Youth Run for kids 12 and under, the 5K Run and the 10K Run. It costs $2 to participate in the Fun Walk or Youth Run. Entrants in the 5K or 10K runs pay $15, which includes a free T-shirt to the first 250 entrants, or $20 for a post entry.
Starting times of races are staggered from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Everyone in the Fun Walk will receive a medal, and all participants in the Youth Run will get a ribbon, Pfanensteil said. The top two finishers in the 5K and 10K run will receive a gift certificate courtesy of Fleet Feet.
The event started off as a fundraiser for renovations at Beaver Lake Nature Center, Pfanensteil said. Now, the money funds educational programs at Beaver Lake.
The other goal of the run is to get people moving.
"The main reason Upstate Chiropractic is a sponsor is for the wellness aspect -- to get people away from the computer, off the couch, get them out doing something and being active," Pfanensteil said.
About 200 people attend each year, Pfanensteil said. Panera Bread will provide bagels.
"It's a good opportunity to be active, even if you're not a runner," said Steve Pfanensteil, coordinator for the event.
Entry forms are available at Fleet Feet, Upstate Chiropractic and The Bikery, with flyers at the Onondaga Lake Park headquarters. Previous participants should receive a form via e-mail.
