Skaneateles Siren duration to be regulated

Village Councilor Sue Jones got together with Fire Chief Eric Sells to respond to a resident's letter regarding the siren sounding for emergency calls.

Jones said Sells worked out a deal with the county for a gizmo (at no cost) that can regulate the number of siren cycles.

The chief said his department will assign different numbers of cycles for different types of calls. For example: the siren will cycle once for SAVES. Three to five times for Fire or accidents. He plans to also assign a different number for emergencies such as a tornado.

The new system will be in place by Aug. 31.

Mayor Bob Green said it will cut down the number of blasts, but not eliminate the siren entirely, which his board was not in favor of.
