Marcellus, Solvay girls compete at Tully meet

Staying active while school was out and OHSL Liberty division action halted, the Marcellus and Solvay girls track and field teams both would post high finishes in last Wednesday's Tully Spring Break Invitational.

Laura Quercia gave the Mustangs an impressive performance in the 800-meter run, pulling far away from the pack to win in a time of 2:23.61, beating Herkimer's Hannah Delude by more than seven seconds. Quercia also was second (5:17.13) to Canastota star Allison Lasnicki (4:55.83) in the 1,500-meter run.

Rachel Garn landed in second place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:07.92 and Lizzie Dean was close behind in third place (11:08.37) as Lasnicki won again in 10:21.24.

The Mustangs' Katherine Busa was fifth in the 100-meter

hurdles in 18.50 seconds and teamed with Jessica Eddicus, McChesney Mastro and Chelsea Tarolli to take third in the 4x100 relay in 55.50 seconds. Hayley Knox, Madeline Balman, Olivia Higgins and Sarah Francesconi got third (11:23.01) in the 4x800 relay.

In field events, Marcellus junior Carley Knoll cleared 8 feet in the pole vault, the same as Tully's Ashley Evans, But Evans had fewer misses, so Knoll settled for second place. Francesconi cleared 4 feet 8 inches to take third in the high jump as teammate Megan Tock took sixth place.

Solvay saw Anna Salvagno take fourth place in the pentathlon with 1,832 points as Sarah Kelly (Marcellus) finished sixth with 1,449 points. The Bearcats' 1,600 sprint medley quartet of Christina Clemente, Erin Ryan, Abigail Frateschi and Michelle Slowik was fifth in 4:45.84.

Clemente also got fifth in the 200-meter dash as Slowik finished sixth in the triple jump. Kyndra Jackson was fifth in the shot put (28 feet 9 inches) and Christy Frateschi had a fifth-place discus throw of 78 feet 7 inches.
