Remains found in City of Oneida identified

A statement has been released by Oneida City Police Chief David Meeker this afternoon.

The remains discovered in a shallow grave off of Canal Road in the City of Oneida on April 6 have been identified by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's office.

The remains were found to be that of Mark Murray of Syracuse. Murray was 41-years-old when he was reported missing in Syracuse on May 22, 2008. Mark was 5'11, 150 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He had last been seen at his Sabine Street home in Syracuse.

The death has been ruled a homicide. Syracuse police and Oneida police are continuing the investigation. Murray's vehicle, a 1994 red Pontiac Firebird, has not been recovered.

Anyone that recalls seeing any suspicious activity on Canal Road in late May 2008, or a red Firebird or other vehicle parked near the aqueduct on Canal Road where the canal intersects with Cowalson Creek, or has any information that may help, is asked to contact Oneida City Police at 363-2323 or Syracuse Police at 442-5188. All calls will be kept confidential.
