Lacrosse Wildcats roar past Liverpool

Some kind of switch, real or proverbial, got flipped on when the West Genesee boys lacrosse team lost in overtime to Corcoran on April 6 and fell to 2-2 on the season.

Ever since, the Wildcats have looked, and played, more like its normal self -- that is, better than just about anyone else in Central New York, or any other place, for that matter.

What started with a 10-goal first-quarter blitz and 20-10 romp of Baldwinsville on April 9 continued last Tuesday night with a game-long clinic conducted against Liverpool as the Wildcats pasted the Warriors 16-4.

Playing at the Solvay High School "Pit" that Liverpool is using as a home field this spring, WG only got half the first-period goals that it earned against B'ville -- but gave up nothing as it bolted out to a 5-0 lead.

The pace slowed a bit in the second quarter, but after halftime the Wildcats settled matters with a 6-2 tear through the third period, all generated by a well-balanced attack.

Dylan Donahue, with a career-best five assists plus two goals, served as the anchor as John Glesener and Corey Herrington each finished with three goals and two assists.

Bob Gasparini and Chris Murphy each scored twice as Tim Barber earned a goal and two assists. Tim McMahon and Casey Schattner also scored, with Matt Schattner adding an assist and helping Glesener dominate once again in the face-off circle.

Back at home, the West Genesee girls lacrosse team remained relentless, and even a solid team like Liverpool could not handle the relentless approach of the Wildcats as WG prevailed by a 15-5 margin.

WG averaged a goal for every two minutes of playing time in the first half, leading to a 13-3 margin and a chance to ease up in the late going.

Karlyn Tupper and Morgan Corso each produced four goals, with Katey Hart finding the net twice. Mel Murphy, Kara Datellas and Lauren Michaels each had one goal and one assist, while Emily Tripodi and Shannon Hawley also scored. Bre Hudgins, Erica Geremia and Julie Dussing found the assist column.
