B'ville man to be honored

Charles Simpson of Baldwinsville consistently has his finger on the pulse of the many diverse students' needs and perceptions in his role as Upstate Medical University's Director of Campus Activities.

For more than 20 years, Simpson has personally touched the lives of hundreds of students through the programming he facilitates and through his role as advisor to more than 60 clubs and organizations on the college's campus.

Simpson's commitment to diversity is evident in the speakers and performers he invites to campus, the films he presents and the challenges and support he helps students navigate.

Simpson will be honored with a Diversity Achievers Award at the 12th Annual YWCA Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism and Promote Diversity Luncheon at noon Wednesday April 21 at the OnCenter in downtown Syracuse. The keynote speaker for the event is Tara Ross, professor of history at Onondaga Community College.

Each year the YWCA offers corporations and organizations an opportunity to nominate individuals in their organization or community that have demonstrated they actively participate in promoting diversity, work toward the elimination of racism and support opportunities for women, criteria that embody the YWCA mission.
