Relying on its depth and a total sweep of the relays, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team went to Liverpool on Wednesday night and scored an impressive season-opening victory, beating the Warriors by a score of 101-84. It all started with the 200 medley relay, where Hadley Cameron-Carter, Delaney Pfohl, Melissa James and Stephanie Wilcoxen broke the two-minute mark, their time of 1:59.15 beating Liverpool by more than 10 seconds. Later on, in the 200 freestyle relay, Wilcoxen, James and Cameron-Carter returned with Sam Paige and won in 1:46.75. To complete the sweep, Pfohl, Paige, Katie Pechacek and Julie Barger needed 4:01.67 to prevail in the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, Cameron-Carter was victorious in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.26 and finished second (57.29 seconds) in the 100 freestyle to Liverpool star Becky Evangelista (55.07 seconds). James rolled to victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.03) as Pechacek held off Renee Stromski to win the 200 freestyle in 2:08.54. In diving, Amy Bright led a 1-2 Hornets sweep, earning 186.3 points as Kenzi Langhammerer (159.9 points) claimed the runner-up spot. Meanwhile, Jamesville-DeWitt earned its first win of the season on Wednesday, beating Skaneateles 98-86. Molly Hair emerged as the Red Rams’ star on this night, claiming the 200 IM in 2:25.72 and also winning the 100 freestyle in 58.59 seconds. Kelly Coyne emerged again to take the 500 freestyle (5:41.34), while Amanda Behan won the 100 butterfly (1:11.10) and Morgan Gunther needed 1:16.21 to prevail in the 100 breaststroke. It helped the Rams that Behan and Ashley Buck (1:11.45) went 1-2 in the 100 fly. Meanwhile, Cara Gannon won in diving with 182.6 points, beating Gannon (172.9 points) and Meghan Engstrom (157.85 points) in a 1-2-3 sweep. Hair, Buck, Coyne and Morgan Pusey teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in 2:02.74. F-M, who has home meets at Nottingham High School, faces West Genesee in a key showdown next Wednesday night, in between J-D meets against Westhill/Corcoran and Mexico.
