When school is out, Solvay Public Library has plans for energizing your reading with book clubs and programs for the whole family. Students from kindergarten to high school look forward to the Summer Book Clubs and their prizes. Registration begins July 1online at solvaylibrary.org or at Solvay Public Library. A list of programs can also be found on the online calendar. Printed program lists are being distributed to students at area schools. Thanks to a grant from the Independent Energy Efficiency Program through the Village of Solvay Electric Department, the Solvay Public Library will host a series of energy conservation programs for families. Public Education for Energy Conservation is a series of programs taught by the MOST and Baltimore Woods at the Library. Learn about alternative energy, ways to conserve energy, electricity, and more. The free programs are Wednesdays in July and Thursdays in August. Check the library’s calendar for dates and times. The grant also funded a special collection of books about energy conservation available for loan. The fun doesn’t stop here! Program Mania is a series of various free programs including music, magic, crafts, and science held at 6:30 p.m. Monday nights in July and August at the library (except July 5). Teen Facebook “Fun”damentals, Twitter and Tweet Class, and Blogging 101 will be offered in August for young social networkers ages 12 to 17. The free classes are taught by educator Blair Frodelius; registration is available online at solvaylibrary.org. Syracuse Symphony Brass Ensemble will perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 7 in the library’s lower parking lot. The event is free and open to the public, but bring a lawn chair. Geddes Federal Savings and Loan sponsored this musical treat. The newly-renovated village of Solvay pool will open June 28. For hours of operation, call village hall at 468-1670. Non-village residents can use the facility for a fee. Solvay Public Library continues to remain open on Saturdays during the summer, but will be closed Sundays from June 27 through Labor Day.
