The Jordan-Elbridge community marked more than four decades of cooperation with the NYS Troopers last weekend with a rededication ceremony for the newly renovated troopers barracks in the village of Elbridge. The village spent around $100,000 this spring to add space to the existing barracks, making the facility safer and more comfortable for officers and civilians. The June 5 ceremony included an open house of the headquarters, music by the Barriger Brothers and several local officials speaking on the deep roots shared by J-E and the troopers. Retired trooper Herb Longton, (for which Longton Lane, where the barracks is located, is named), reminded the crowd that the troopers began their relationship with Elbridge in 1977, when a satellite office was opened on the back side of Elbridge Plaza. From the back of the plaza, to the front, to the existing facility down the road — the troopers have long been a familiar force in Jordan-Elbridge. Sgt. Timothy Siddall, the sargent in charge of the Elbridge substation, is a 1977 graduate of Jordan-Elbridge High School and continues to reside locally. “This area means a lot to me and it means a lot to the people that work here,” Siddall said. Troopers stationed in Elbridge serve the J-E, Marcellus, Skaneateles and Spafford communities, as well as provide back-up to the Camillus Police Department.
