Both the Christian Brothers Academy and Jamesville-DeWitt girls lacrosse team moved forward in Monday’s opening round of the Section III Class C playoffs. In C-1, the undefeated Red Rams, as the no. 2 seed, ripped past no. 7 seed Mexico 25-8, while the Brothers defended its top seed in C-2 by getting past Cazenovia 19-9. Having already beaten Mexico twice in the regular season, J-D made the third affair just as one-sided, bolting out to a 14-5 lead by halftime and never getting caught. Ashriel West set the torrid pace, with seven goals and two assists, with many passes coming from Taylor Bierwagen as she piled up six assists. Tori Nies (four goals, two assists) and Liz Beville (three goals, three assists) both had six points, while Morgan Freeman also got three goals. Taylor Fallon got two goals and two assists, with Lauren Swan adding a goal and three assists. Amanda Wynn, Frannie Haunfeiner, Ally Loewy and Lauren Beville each scored, too. CBA had just an easy time of it against a Cazenovia team spent from having to win three of its last four games to reach the playoffs, then get through an opening-round game with General Brown just two days before coming to Alibrandi Stadium. The Brothers bolted out to an 8-0 lead in the game’s first 15 minutes, and did so without a single point from Katie Webster. Six different players — Taylor Poplawski, Taylor Gait, Meg Hannan, Natasha Grant, Sophie Racciatti and Marisa Romeo — scored in that sequence. But Cazenovia wouldn’t give up, finally getting on the board and, after trailing 11-3 at halftime, using three straight goals from Gabby Jaquith to make a push early in the second half. With the margin closed to 13-8 and a lot of time left, Webster finally got on the board. Her back-to-back goals sparked a 6-1 surge where Gait and Poplawski both worked their totals to four goals. Romeo finished with three goals and two assists, while Grant and Racciatti joined Webster in the two-goal column and Kara Dell’uomo also scored. In Wednesday’s C-2 semifinals, CBA faces Tully, while J-D goes to the C-1 semifinal to face Marcellus.
