Both of East Syracuse-Minoa’s track and field teams would record high finishes during last Tuesday’s OHSL Freedom division championship meet at nearby Chittenango. On the boys side, the Spartans picked up 67 points for fifth place in the nine-team field, just behind Homer and Chittenango, who tied for third with 70 points. Jamesville-DeWitt won with 155.5 points. ESM won the boys 4×800 relay as Craig Andrianos, Christian Larrabee, Chad Goyer and Mike Coogan posted a time of 8:27.08, beating J-D by more than eight seconds. Coogan, on his own, won the 3,200-meter run in 9:58.92 and claimed second in the mile in 4:32.73. Larrabee would take third in the 400-meter dash (53.60 seconds) as Goyer finished fourth, and Andrianos would place third (2:02.48) in the 800-meter run. Pete Ferstler took third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:53.08. Andres Salcedo was fifth in the 110 high hurdles (17.50 seconds), with Kyle Gagen sixth in the 100-meter dash. In the 4×400 relay, Andrianos, Larrabee, Goyer and Mike Terry were third in 3:42.05. Gagen, Goyer, Mike Nicholson and Jayme Patrick got fourth in the 4×100 relay in 48.31 seconds. Jason Purdey had a fourth-place discus throw of 104 feet 1 inch. ESM’s girls team had 45 points in the OHSL Freedom meet, tying Fulton for sixth place, with J-D (232 points) far removed from anyone else. Meghan Visser earned many of those points herself, winning the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:41.97 and adding a second (5:17.26) in the 1,500-meter run. In the 4×400 relay, Cara Andrianos, Andrea Reidman, Carley Eaton and Amanda Wall finished second in 4:26.86, with Andrianos, Rediman, Meg Crandell and Grace Maring second in the 4×800 in 10:52.71. Reidman claimed fourth in the 800 as Alyssa Passett took sixth. Andrianos took fifth in the 400 hurdles as Eaton was sixth in the triple jump, the only ESM point in a field event. The Spartans were fifth in the 4×100 in 55.90 seconds as Heather Hiltbrand took sixth in the 100-meter high hurdles.
