Both of Chittenango’s track and field teams tried to make their way up the standings as the hosts for last Tuesday’s OHSL Freedom division championship meets — especially with Jamesville-DeWitt dominating the scene. At least the girls Bears earned second place, with 86 points, though it was far off the Red Rams’ total of 232 points. The Chittenango boys had 70 points to tie Homer for third place behind Mexico (94) as, again, J-D (155.5 points) finished in front. Chittenango got a 1-2 finish out of the discus, where Alyssa Endres had a winning throw of 86 feet 2 inches and Alex Paige (77 feet 10 inches) took the runner-up spot. Brittany Tirabassi earned lots of points, taking second in the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.69 seconds and adding another runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.52. Tirabassi also cleared 4 feet 8 inches for fourth place in the high jump and was sixth in the pole vault. Courtney Dyer nearly won twice. On her own, she took second in the 100-meter dash, just beaten by J-D’s Marae Tearney, 13.04 seconds to Tearney’s 13.01. Then, in the 4×100 relay, Dyer, Meredith Furtado, Theresa Parscendola and Alyssa Giarosso were second in 53.45 seconds, edged out at the wire by Mexico (53.44) by one-hundredth of a second. Dyer also was fifth in the 400-meter dash as Giarosso took second in the 200-meter dash. Katrina Karbowniczak earned second place in the pentathlon, earning 1,765 points. Kaitlyn Alongi, Jordan Donnelly, Alissa Levens-Freeman and Caity Foster got third place in the 4×800 relay in 11:04.53 as Maize Zamlowski got fourth (30 feet 10 1/2 inches) in the triple jump. Becca Sager ran to fourth in the 3,000-meter event (12:30.62) as Jessica Macri got sixth. Shannon Bunce was fifth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (9:25.05) as the Bears also landed in fifth in the 4×400 relay in 4:33.95. Moving to the boys side, Bruce Gondeck won the high jump, clearing 5 feet 10 inches with fewer misses than Ryan Shue (Fulton) and Jesse Anderson (Mexico), who cleared the same heights. Justin Stevens (5 feet 8 inches) was fourth. Gondeck also took second in the long jump (17 feet 7 inches) and ran to second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.25 seconds, and was fifth in the 400 hurdles as teammate Chris Ingerson was sixth. Brian Bohne had a second-place clocking of 53.26 seconds in the 400 and was third in the 100 in 11.75 seconds before claiming fifth in the 200. Kevin Carr was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:34.51) as Ethan Turner, Jason Given, Greg Foster and John Durfee took fourth in the 4×800 in 9:05.50, with Given, Bohne, Foster and Ingerson fourth in the 4×400 in 3:45.14. John Laplante cleared 11 feet in the pole vault, earning third place. Turner took sixth in the mile and Durfee got sixth in the 3,200-meter run as the Bears also had a sixth in the 4×100.
