When the Skaneateles girls track and field team joined all the other OHSL Liberty division squads at Marcellus for Monday’s OHSL Liberty division championship, the result echoed what had taken place in the regular season. Again, Skaneateles was strong, finishing with 93 points. Again, all that left them was a second-place finish behind Cazenovia, who completed a season sweep by earning 135 points for the top spot. By far, the biggest success came in field events, where Caroline Walton earned a sweep. Walton threw the discus 99 feet 8 inches, handily winning that event as she tossed the shot put 35 feet 5 inches to prevail there, too. In the high jump, Gabby Eckles cleared 5 feet with fewer misses than Westhill’s Kathryn Christensen to take that event. Katherine Hill was second in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet 6 inches as Kaela Fiutak (8 feet) took fourth place. Victoria Sakal would, on her own, take second in the 100-meter dash in 12.93 seconds and third in the 200-meter dash (26.80 seconds), both events won by Phoenix’s Ashley Palmer. Skaneateles was second in all three of the relay events. Sakal, Kaela Fiutak, Cassie Berg and Amelia O’Hara posted 53.38 seconds, behind Cazenovia (52.68) in the 4×100 relay, while in the 4×400 Carly Strods, Grace Van der Ven, Erin Tonzi and Amanda Gray got second in 4:18.32. In the 4×800, Strods, Gray, Tonzi and Danielle Mazzeo posted a time of 10:00.20, but host Marcellus beat them with 9:52.18. Individually, Strods took fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:25.99. Gray was fifth (1:04.75) and Van der Ven sixth in the 400-meter dash as she also placed fourth in the long jump. Skaneateles managed 40 points and a sixth-place finish in the boys OHSL meet, where CBA, like the Cazenovia girls, repeated its regular-season title as it earned 137 points. Sean Cooper nearly won the 110-meter high hurdles, his time of 15.96 seconds just behind Phoenix’s Sean McMonagle (15.88). Tim Lewis was second in the high jump, clearing 6 feet as CBA’s Tre Williams (6 feet 4 inches) won. Taylor Weyneth was fourth (10 feet) in the pole vault. Calvin Davis was third in the 800-meter run (2:00.95), and he teamed with Sam Kriever, Paul Hamilton and Mark Cannuciari for third place in the 4×800 relay in 8:24.68. Austin Amory, with 1,684 points, finished third in the pentathlon. Lewis, Max Weiss, Xander Edwards and Nate Molnar got fifth (48.72 seconds) in the 4×100.
