Home fans would get two more chances to look at the West Genesee girls lacrosse team – and the winning continued. First, the Wildcats met Cicero-North Syracuse last Tuesday night, roaring past the Northstars 20-8. Unlike their first meeting on April 1, WG did not have a blazing start, as CNS kept things tight and only trailed 8-4 at the break. But a big second half allowed for a comfortable winning margin. Five different players — Mel Murphy, Shannon Hawley, Karlyn Tupper, Bridget Alberts and Shannon Hawley — each finished with three goals. Katey Hart backed up her two goals with four assists, while Emily Tripodi also got four assists as Erica Geremia earned two goals and two assists. Mary Ferranti, Nicole Desko, Madison Huegel and Julie Dussing joined Tupper in the assist column. Then came the Wildcats’ Senior Night, with a game against Oswego as the featured attraction once all the festivities were done. WG didn’t waste the occasion, beating the Buccaneers 20-9 as it prevented Oswego from getting its high-powered attack (it scored 20 goals in a loss to Fayetteville-Manlius six days earlier) started. Leading 12-4 at the break, the Wildcats cruised home as Morgan Corso piled up five goals and three assists. Tupper found the net four times as Hawley, Murphy, Geremia and Bre Hudgins posted two goals apiece. Tripodi and Kara Datellas each picked up one goal and one assist as Hart and Dussing added assists. Just two games are left in the regular season for the state Class A no. 2-ranked Wildcats – Tuesday’s trip to Baldwinsville and the May 20 finale at Fayetteville-Manlius, the two prime challengers to WG’s championship throne.
