Two rare feats marked an exciting, up-and-down week for the Baldwinsville baseball team.
Four days after Bo Watson threw a no-hitter against Oswego, the Bees went to Alliance Bank Stadium, where freshman Gabe Levanti added to his fast-growing reputation by becoming the first B’ville player to ever hit for the cycle during a 10-6 victory over Henninger. All this came during the opening game of the two-day “Strike Out Lou Gehrig’s Disease” Classic, which helps benefit the Upstate New York chapter of the ALS Association. In his first four at-bats, Levanti laid out a single triple and inside-the-park home run, all of which was needed as B’ville fell behind 6-4 before tying it in the top of the fifth inning. Then, in the sixth, Levanti’s double completed his cycle, broke the tie and ignited a four-run rally that pushed B’ville ahead for good. And just to complete the circle, Watson returned to the mound, in relief of Kyle Cushman, and threw three scoreless innings to earn the win. In support of Levanti, Brett Earle doubled and drove in two runs, while Watson, Kyle Lattanzio and Danny Wright each had one RBI. Following this wild week, B’ville (7-5) would be back for three more games this week against Corcoran, Auburn and Central Square.
