The Ladies Auxiliary of the Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen’s Association is hosting their 21st Annual Blue Light Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday May 7 at the Fairmount Fire Station, 4611 W. Genesee St., Camillus. The annual event, traditionally hosted by the President of the Ladies Auxiliary, is open to the public and provides for an array of public safety demonstrations for both children and adults. Auxiliary President Gen Blair from the Fairmount Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary states the true intention of Blue Light Night is to show make the public aware of a way to show support to our Volunteer Firefighters by displaying a blue light outside of your home in the evenings during the month of May. The auxiliary will be selling blue light bulbs at the event for $2. Sen. John A. DeFrancisco, Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli and Camillus Supervisor MaryAnn Coogan, along with other local elected officials, will be in attendance to also show their support. In addition, several displays will be available from the Onondaga County search and rescue team, the Onondaga County Firefighters underwater search and rescue team, the Onondaga County Sheriffs Department bomb squad robot, the Solvay Fire Dept. Explorers Group and a rescue craft from the Skaneateles Fire Dept. Blood pressure screening will be performed by the volunteers from W.A.V.E.S. Ambulance and the Camillus Police Department will provide fingerprinting for the youth and also a car seat inspection. County firefighters will also be displaying their real life Fire and Educational Trailer where actual smoke drills can be practiced, simulating leaving your home in a fire situation. There will also be a coloring contest with gift card prizes provided by many area vendors who have also provided other gifts including carbon monoxide detectors to be given out as door prizes.
