With its undefeated mark on the line, the Baldwinsville boys tennis team nearly gave it away in last Thursday’s match against Oswego, but did enough for a 4-3 victory over the Buccaneers. The Bees had not played a match in a week, since beating Henninger on April 22. In the interim, it had seen last Tuesday’s match with Cicero-North Syracuse postponed due to weather which ranged from rain to snow. That precipitation was long gone by Thursday, and the Bees would get moving with Matt Funicello staying unbeaten with a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Matt Randall. Both of the other singles matches went to three sets. Shawn Sullivan shook off an early deficit to dominate late as he beat Nick Bonacarsi 3-6, 6-0, 6-0, while Ben Weiss saw the reverse happen in a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 loss to Austin Demott. B’ville got an exact split in doubles, and both wins were one-sided. Danny Kot and Tom Hamm took out Jon Kanagh and Joseph Hart 6-1, 6-0, with Grady Schmidt and Yaro Nieves grabbing a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sean O’Connor and Richard Mandanas. Otherwise, Kevin Thompson and Kevin Pregent lost to Nizar Al Salameh and Dylan Hryckewicz 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), with Shaun Devlin and Matt McKee falling to Steve Hoefer and Ryan Patrick 7-5, 6-3.
