With all of its stars on hand, the Marcellus track and field teams would take both ends of last Wednesday’s wind-swept meet with Westhill, winning 98-43 on the girls side and a close 73.5-67.5 decision on the boys side. It was a three-way meet, with Hannibal also involved. Westhill would win on both sides against Hannibal by scores of 112-29 (boys) and 76-57 (girls). Mike Quercia would win four times for the boys Mustangs. He ran the 400-meter dash in 50.6 seconds, took the 800-meter run in 2:04.4, tore through the 200-meter dash in 22.2 seconds and capped it off by clearing 5 feet 8 inches in the high jump. Jesse Garn offered support, winning the 3,200-meter run (10:02.7) and mile (4:37.7) and teaming with Ryan Manahan, Tom Riccardi and Mike Fallon to claim the 4×800 relay in 8:44.3. Meanwhlie, Nate Waite won the 100-meter dash in 11.5 seconds, combining with Nick Huss, Mitch Schoenburn and Brad Kermes to claim the 4×100 relay in 47.1 seconds. Nick Huss gave Marcellus a pole vault win by clearing 11 feet 6 inches. On Westhill’s side, Dan Ross prevailed in the long jump (18 feet 5 inches) and triple jump (38 feet 7 1/4 inches), while Tom Fisher threw the discus 114 feet 4 inches and tossed the shot put 45 feet 2 inches. The Warriors’ Jack Honis won both the 110 high hurdles (16.3 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:01.9) and helped the 4×400 relay team win in 3:41.2. Meanwhile, in the girls meet, Marcellus distance runner Rachel Garn took the 1,500-meter run (5:20.4) and 800 (2:41.7) as Elizabeth Dean took the 3,000-meter run in 11:40.5. Garn, Olivia Huggins, Laura Quercia and Maggie Dunn ran the 4×800 in 10:35.7. On her own, Quercia needed 1:02.5 to win the 400-meter dash as the Mustangs also claimed the 4×100 (55.1 seconds) and Megan Tock went 13 feet 1/2 inch in the long jump. On Westhill’s side, Kathryn Christensen cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump and helped the 4×400 relay side prevail in 4:40 flat.
