In the midst of a busy week of league matches, the Liverpool boys tennis would put its 4-1 mark on the line against 3-0 Baldwinsville. And the Warriors would get just one point in the 6-1 defeat, coming in second singles when Chris Brais came from behind to beat Ben Weiss 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. Otherwise, the Bees won every match in straight sets, as Joe Corcoran fell to Matt Funicello 6-2, 6-1 and Steve Schneider lost to Shawn Sullivan 6-1, 6-1. In the closest of the four doubles matches, Haroon Sheikh and Noura Hammadi had a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Shaun Devlin and Kevin Thompson. Before that, the Warriors swept Utica Proctor 7-0 last Monday afternoon, which included Corcoran beating Kevin Voe 6-2, 6-2 and Steve Schneider topping Netha Blay 6-1, 6-2. Brais routed Matt Wosenie 6-0, 6-1. Sheikh and Hammadi had the only close doubles match, beating Kyrill Verenich and Oleg Verenich 7-5, 6-0. The teams of Mike Schneider-Ian Swenson, Brandon Fernandes-Brennan Kirsche and Anthony Taormina-Nick O’Hara lost just two games between them. Right after the B’ville match, the Warriors would take out Auburn 6-1 on Friday, helped by a single sweep where Corcoran, Brais and Steve Schneider lost just one game in six total sets. Though they played a bit longer, Swenson and Mike Schneider rolled past Eric Falcicchio and Rich Granato 6-3, 6-0. Fernandes and Kirsche had a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bryant Wolfe and Joe Leogrand, while Taormina and J.C. Lombardo blew out Rob Buckley and Brendon Carraway 6-2, 6-0. Cicero-North Syracuse had to fight past Central Square 5-2 last Monday afternoon in a match where it needed a doubles sweep to pull through. Brandon Collins and Dan Greco had the closest call, beating Will Galbraith and Chris Nichols 7-5, 6-4, with Kyle Brunson and Anthony Mann earning a 7-5, 6-1 win over Devin Bush and Derek Lederle. Colin Crooks and Andrew Yankay handled Jason Ashley and Josh Wheeler 6-1, 6-1 as Mike Rodriguez and Dan Schiarino beat Savon Johnson and Ian Madigan 6-1, 6-3. Up in singles, Kevin Turbolino and Phil Knoop both lost in straight sets, but Mark Fallinski rescued the fifth point, beating Noah Roberts 7-5, 6-1. CNS played again Wednesday, falling to West Genesee 5-2 despite a pair of singles wins.
Tubolino beat Tanner McGuire in straight sets 6-0, 6-4, while Fallinski had a 6-2, 6-3 win over Erik Breault. Only one of the doubles matches went to three sets as Schiarino and Rodriguez led early, only to fall to Lucas Hendrickson and Shane Heyn 2-6, 6-0, 6-3.
