On both ends, the Liverpool track and field teams toyed with Henninger on Wednesday afternoon at Sunnycrest Field’s oval, beating the Black Knights 114-19 on the boys side and 101-31 on the girls side. Joe Spernyak led the boys Warriors as he sped to wins in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.4 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles, where he posted a time of 1:02.5. Zavon Watkins went to the 400-meter dash and covered it in 50.9 seconds, while Mychal Ostuni won at 800 meters (2:14.5). Anthony Brais prevailed in the mile (5:03.3) and Brandon Rudd needed 11:44.8 to prevail at 3,200 meters. Tony Shuler backed up his 100-meter title (11.2 seconds) by also claiming the triple jump, going 40 feet 6 inches. Other wins went to Jason Osborne (shot put, 45 feet 8 inches), Jackson O’Connor (discus, 117 feet 2 inches) and Joe Alvarado (long jump, 17 feet 7 inches. Spernyak, Colin Savage, Keewan Rondinello and Justin McGriff combined to win the 4×400 relay (3:44.7) as Alvarado, Drew Henry, Zach Romano and Casey Guilfoil needed 9:49.5 to win the 4×400 relay. Meanwhile, in the girls meet, Lesley Bowers and Tatiana Gladney both won two events. In Bowers’ case, that meant claiming the 1,500-meter run (5:08 flat) and needing 11:28.8 to prevail in the 3,000-meter run. Gladney threw the discus 84 feet 5 inches and the shot put 32 feet 5 1/2 inches to win both titles, as Meagan Turner added a first in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 8 inches. Trina Bills was first in the 400-meter dash in 1:03 flat as Farrah Terranova claimed the 800 in 2:37.8. Rachel Putman, Ashley Letteney, Ali Whiting and Alex Reilly gave Liverpool a top time of 11:05 in the 4×800 as Letteney, Ash Spears, Chenae Sinclair and Missy Riehl took the 4×400 in 4:42.8. Then it was Liverpool’s turn to host a full-scale girls meet on Saturday — the “Star War” Invitational, though it took place at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium. Gladney emerged with a victory in the shot put, tossing it 34 feet 2 1/2 inches as she also took fifth in the javelin and sixth in the discus. Erika Salem cleared 8 feet 6 inches to finish fourth in the pole vault. Turner was sixth in the high jump and Moore sixth in the long jump. In the 800, Trina Bills came within inches of victory, finishing in 2:22.50 as Watertown’s Amanda White (2:22.47) edged her out. Armani Moore combined with Letteney, Putman and Skye Borasky to finish second in the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 4:28.01, with Putman working her way to second in the 400-meter dash (1:01.91) behind Pulaski’s Tricia Clark (59.85 seconds).
Bowers took third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:52.79 as Kyla Bills (7:59.05) finished fifth. Letteney, Terranova, Sophie Breed and Mary Anne Savage claimed fourth in the 4×800 in 10:06.29. Chelsea Attaway ran to sixth in the 1,500. In the pentathlon, Nikki Carfi had a third-place total of 2,043 points, while Tammy Brodie (1,958 points) finished fourth. Moore, Salem, Kayla Whalen and Ashley Twum were fifth in the 4×100.
