Led again by Mike Rabbitt, the Oneida boys track and field team held up well against a solid field at Thursday’s East Syracuse-Minoa Invitational. The Indians finished with 71.5 points, good for fourth in a 12-team field. Watertown won with 101.2 points, with Holland Patent (92 points) and Tully (87 points) close behind. Rabbitt would hold off Fulton’s John Strong, 58.29 seconds to 58.70, to win the 400-meter hurdles. In the high jump, Rabbitt cleared 6 feet 4 inches, tying Baldwinsville’s Brian Kane for the best Section III effort of the season. Over in the 110-meter high hurdles, Rabbitt was the top qualifier, but finished second in the finals in 17.24 seconds to Watertown’s Erroll Hooker (16.00 seconds). Eric Riley was second in the 800-meter run (2:06.79) and third in the 100-meter dash (11.91 seconds), and also went 38 feet 6 inches to take fourth in the triple jump. Elsewhere, Tyler Neal and Connor Lomonaco tied for third in the pole vault, both clearing 8 feet 6 inches, while Zach Hall had a third-place long jump of 18 feet 6 inches. Kyle Blessing was fourth in the discus with a toss of 114 feet 8 inches. Jimmy Moyer had 2,410 points in the pentathlon. Oneida’s quartet of Hall, Matt Barlow, Ryan Spooner and Terrell Wynn earned second place in the 1,600 freshman/sophomore sprint medley relay in 4:19.94.
