When the first state Class B boys lacrosse rankings came out last week, Jamesville-DeWitt held the no. 3 spot behind Canandaigua and Comsewogue. The Red Rams don’t intend to stay there, as its quest for the top continued Friday night with an 18-5 romp over its neighbors from East Syracuse-Minoa. For a very brief moment, ESM thought it could keep up, breaking through J-D’s defenses a few times for goals in the first quarter to keep the margin at 5-3. That changed the moment the second period began. The Rams dominated the face-offs, attacked and finished off scoring chances. It didn’t stop until eight consecutive goals had been recorded and the margin had grown to 11-3. J-D cruised from there, as Jake Bratek put together five goals and two assists. Eric DeJohn and Jordan Evans each had three goals and one assist, while Cam Stone got two goals and one assist. Ian Gilchriest also found the net twice as Ed Kiesea, Tim Edwards and Joe Shepard got single goals. Steven Aziz had two assists. ESM, in defeat, saw five different players – Quadear Mike, Garrett Smith, Nick Capriotti, Tom Rosachi and Mike Cummings – get the five goals, with James Landry joining Smith, Mike and Capriotti in the assist column. Combined, Spartan goalies Chris Rosso and Alex Krawec earned 14 saves. Prior to that, both teams had won big on Tuesday night, as J-D handled Homer 16-5 and ESM did the same in blowing out Fulton 14-5. Given Homer’s 4-1 start, the Rams looked to be facing a solid test — but handicapped by a short-handed roster, the Trojans had no chance to contain J-D for an entire night. A 5-1 second-quarter burst put the Rams in charge, and it blanked Homer in the third quarter, building the margin to 12-3 and ending all suspense. DeJohn was involved in half of J-D’s scoring plays, with five goals and two assists, while Bratek and Shepard each had three-goal hat tricks. Ed Kiesa scored twice as Stone, Pete Goss and Alex Hatem also converted. Evans had two assists and Mac Feiner one assist. As for ESM, it outscored Fulton in every single period, a gradual effort that built up over time despite the Red Raiders’ Eric Belair making 18 saves. Cummings led the way with four goals and one assist.Mike, Landry and Tom Rosaschi each had two goals and one assist, while Marc Sacco also found the net twice. Jeff Koch and Smith produced one goal apiece. Capriotti joined Smith in the assist column. Other than a non-league meeting with Fayetteville-Manlius, ESM is off this week. J-D has three games – against New Hartford, Cortland and Fairport – in a span of five days.
