Not until mid-April did the Baldwnisville boys tennis team finally get to open its 2010 schedule, but the wait didn’t make the Bees rusty. Up against Auburn last Tuesday afternoon, the Bees dominated on the doubles side and easily got past the Maroons by a score of 6-1. Danny Kot and Tom Hamm began the work with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Joe Leogrand and Bryant Wolfe. Yaro Nieves and Grady Schmidt shut out Andrew Cosochor and Erik Falcicchio 6-0, 6-0, while Cody Buck and Kevin Pregent topped Dave Rescott and Matt Carberry 6-1, 6-0. Shawn Sullivan and Kevin Thompson won in straight sets, too. Up in singles, Shaun Devlin lost in two sets, but Matt Funicello took out Rich Granto 6-0, 6-1 in first singles and Ben Weiss worked past Parth Patel 6-4, 6-1. B’ville improved to 2-0 on Thursday, handling Corcoran in a 7-0 shutout. Though Devlin and Sullivan went to three sets in doubles, they beat Joe Sandefur and Lyle Watson 6-1, 3-6, 6-0, while the duos of Kot-Hamm, Nieves-Schmidt and Zach Wolgemuth-Matt Varga each posted straight-set wins.
