All the preliminary tasks have been cleared for the Skaneateles boys lacrosse team in advance of what is, undoubtedly, its most important week of the season. That kicks off next Tuesday with the Lakers hosting one main rival, Marcellus, and culminates Saturday with a trip to face defending Section III Class C champion LaFayette in what is the only head-to-head meeting between the two long-time powers this spring. The Lakers moved to 4-0 on the season Tuesday night, putting together a smooth effort that resulted in a 17-7 victory. Patiently, Skaneateles grabbed a 3-1 edge in the first quarter, then took off before halftime as it tagged the Warriors for seven goals, eventually building its margin to 10-3. As if that weren’t enough, the Lakers got five unanswered goals in the third period. Spreading things around, the Lakers saw Kelly Donigan earn four goals and two assists, with Paul O’Donnell earning the same amount of points through three goals and three assists. Close behind, Kevin Rice had three goals and two assists as Tom Schoener and Zach Brownlee each put up two goals and one assist. Kyle Baier had one goal and one assist as Jeff Higman and Steve Scuderi also scored. Joe Duggan added an assist. If nothing else, the Lakers have been consistent in its production and in the way it has controlled every opponent, as it did again last Thursday in a 17-5 win over Jordan-Elbridge. For a while, the Eagles didn’t let the Eagles get too far away. But an 8-3 halftime edge became far more comfortable when Skaneateles registered four unanswered goals in the third quarter and kept on going from there. Again, the balance on the attack was close to perfect. Rice had four goals and one assist as Donigan, Schoener and O’Donnell each put up three goals. Scuderi scored twice as Higman and Dylan Ross earned single goals. Richards earned two assists, with Brownlee and Baier getting single assists.
