A whole host of important track and field meets are slated for Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium this spring, culminating with the June 11-12 state championships. But it all started with last Saturday’s CNS Relays, where the host Northstars finished second in both divisions — and Liverpool finished on top of the girls standings. When all the scores were added up, the girls Warriors had 77.5 points, to CNS’s total of 67.5 points. Ithaca was third with 55 points. Liverpool scattered its points all over the meet, including the 4×100 relay, where Hannah Anthes, Kayla Whalen, Armani Moore and Ashley Twum posted a time of 52.95 seconds to edge Ithaca (53.12 seconds) at the wire. And in the pole vault, Erika Salem and Chelsea Attaway went 1-2 as the Warriors won with total clearances of 16 feet 8 inches. Armani Moore won the individual long jump, going 15 feet 11 inches as she and Megan Earle finished second (29 feet 8 inches). Liverpool also was fourth in the shot put and triple jump, fifth in the discus and tied CNS for fifth in the high jump. Trina Bills, Lesley Bowers, Kyla Bills and Farrah Terranova gave Liverpool a second-place finish in the distance medley relay in 13:24.52. In the mile relay, Attaway, Trina Bills, Lesley Bowers and Kyla Bills were second, their times adding up to 22:40.66. Anthes, Ashlee Spears, Ashley Letteney and Rachel Putman were third in the 1,600 sprint medley (4:33.77), as Katie Rowell, Mary Anne Savage, Brianna Inman and Marina Callisto took third (11:04.23) in the 4×800 relay, with Melissa Riehl and Chenae Sinclair getting third in the 400 hurdles (2:37.95). Liverpool was fifth in both the 100 hurdles and 4×100 relay. CNS saw Jasmine Thompson (15.52 seconds) and Katie Osborne (15.86 seconds) go 1-2 in the 100 hurdles as the team won with 31.38 seconds. Another win came in the 400 hurdles, where Jessica Wheeler (second) and Chelsea Davidson (fourth) had a top time of 2:33.05. Over in the triple jump, Brittany Murphy and Lindsay Piraino were second and third, respectively, and edged Mohonasen for the top spot with a combined 65 feet 6 1/4 inches. In the 4×800, Dana Rinaldi, Jamie Leone, Mackenzie Cummings and Katie Laris were second in 11:02.49. Thompson and Osborne teamed with Wheeler and Brooke Binion for third in the 4×100 (53.22 seconds). The Northstars also got fifth in the mile relay and sprint medley. Valerie Langevin and Casey Wilmer were second in the shot put with combined tosses of 64 feet 8 inches, and the same duo also got second in the discus with throws adding up to 195 feet 11 inches. In both events, Lancaster’s Melissa Kurzdorfer won with tremendous throws of 47 feet 5 inches (shot put) and 145 feet 2 inches (discus). In the boys CNS Relays, the Northstars had 72 points, just behind Rush-Henrietta, who prevailed with 76 points. Liverpool was fourth with 46 points. However, that Warrior total included Zavon Watkins, Chris Clemons, Alex Wilke and Colin Savage setting a meet record in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:39.01, smashing Binghamton’s 2008 mark by more than 12 seconds. The Northstars finished sixth. CNS’s Andrew Johnson and Carl Patzer both cleared 6 feet and won the combined high jump, with Patzer and Eric Munoz third in the triple jump. In the long jump, Munoz was the individual champion (20 feet 1 1/2 inches) and, along with Patzer, won by going 38 feet 4 inches. Cameron Doray and Jared Thomson were second in the discus, with throws adding up to 241 feet 8 inches. Brendan Ryan and Cameron Shaughnessy were third in the pole vault, clearing 19 feet 6 inches.
