As an unusual early-April heat wave lingered, the Oneida and Vernon Verona Sherrill golf teams started out with matches against each other Wednesday afternoon. And both would leave satisfied, for different reasons.
The boys Indians prevailed, 247-260, at the Oneida Community Course, while the girls Red Devils earned a 224-265 win over at Foster Ponds. Depth and consistency allowed the Oneida boys to finish on top as Sam Adams and Trey Didio each shot nine-hole scores of 47 and Evan Cooley earned a 48. VVS’s Kyle Renwick had the low individual round of 43 as Drew Foster contributed a 47. Four girls players for the Red Devils topped the best Oneida effort as Brittany Heysler shot a 52, with Micaela Shea and Amanda Siznek adding 57 and Tracee Scheibel contributing a 58. Oneida’s Kaitlyn Lynch posted a 59.
