On its second try, the Cazenovia boys lacrosse team broke into the win column.
Having dropped an 11-7 decision to Skaneateles on April 1, the Lakers made another long road trip last Tuesday, to Jordan-Elbridge — but this time found success, toppling the Eagles 14-10. Much of the game was an even exchange — Cazenovia converting, J-E offering a proper response — with one notable exception. In the second quarter, with the game tied 3-3, the Lakers took charge, winning face-offs and scoring with regularity. J-E never even got on the board as, with five unanswered tallies, the Lakers seized an 8-3 advantage. That margin grew to 11-5 before the Eagles made a late and futile push. By then, Brett Axelson had recorded four goals and two assists, while teammates Sean Cannizzaro and Connor Cannizzaro each gained three goals and one assist. Behind them, Matt Donovan had a goal and two assists as John Greacen, Joe Nardella and Matt Donovan also converted. Gale Thorpe (four goals, one assist) and Tyler Richardson (three goals, one assist) led J-E’s effort. Cazenovia then made it back-to-back wins on Friday, dominating Clinton in a 17-2 romp.
Controlling the ball for most of the first half, the Lakers scored at a steady rate, not halting until it had gained a 12-1 edge by the break. Connor Cannizzaro, with four goals and four assists, and Sean Cannizzaro, with five goals and one assist, set the pace. Axelson had four goals and one assist, while Nardella had two goals and three assists. Sam Lewis had two goals and one assist as Greacen earned three assists. The Lakers try for three straight wins on Tuesday, against CBA, before going to Marcellus on Friday.
