A full week had passed since the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team had delivered its crushing opening statement — a 16-8 win at West Genesee on a windy, wet and cold night of March 30. One prolonged heat wave later, the Red Rams returned to the OHSL Class B ranks with devastating results, as it pounded Fulton 17-1 in a game where all the action was in the first half. J-D attacked at will and scored at generally the same rate. Eight goals in the first period and eight more in the second quarter meant a 16-1 halftime margin, and the rest was just filler. Jake Bratek, with four goals and one assist, led the way, but Jordan Evans was close behind as he notched the first three-goal hat trick of his varsity career. Pete Goss, Cam Stone and Rob Elberse each found the net twice, with Eric DeJohn picking up a goal and two assists. Ed Kiesa, Tim Edwards and Joe Shepard scored, too, as Alex Hatem had two assists. East Syracuse-Minoa went to New Hartford and, in a battle of closely matched Spartan teams, lost a 9-8 overtime decision. Behind 7-4 at halftime, ESM fought its way back by playing superb defense in the second half, holding New Hartford to one goal and shutting them out in the fourth quarter. This helped ESM tie it, 8-8, but New Hartford still pulled it out in OT, negating the work of Garrett Smith, who had three goals and two assists, and Mike Cummings, who finished with two goals and two assists. Quadear Mike, Ken Cannon and Marc Sacco scored, too, as Tom Rosaschi, Connor Garris and Marc Sacco earned assists. Tyler Gardiner (one goal, three assists) led a balanced New Hartford attack. The two goalies, ESM’s Chris Russo and New Hartford’s Pat Alcott, both had 15 saves.
