Some baseball teams, when a new season starts out, need time to work on whatever flaws it may have in its system. Not so with the Liverpool Warriors, who had everything clicking right from the start last Tuesday as it wiped out Oswego 10-0 in its 2010 opener. Hungry to go after a Section III Class AA title after Auburn knocked them out in last year’s semifinal round, Liverpool jumped all over Buccaneers pitcher Shane Demo for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. Not a lot happened at the plate after that, but Mike Parsons still displayed some power as he blasted two home runs and finished with four RBIs. Alex Caruso, Corbin Gapski and James Wright also drove in runs, while Wright earned a double. Caruso, Gapski and Rob Broddus joined Parsons in the two-hit column. Any single run would have been enough as Liverpool’s returning pitching ace, Matt O’Kipney, earned the win. O’Kipney, along with reliever Joe Riley, pitched without pressure and limited Oswego to just two total hits, each hurler getting four strikeouts.
