Students in each of the West Genesee Schools decided to raise funds to help the people of Haiti after the devestating Earthquake they experienced earlier this year. At WG High School, students raised $600 through the sale of T-Shirts, pins, and “Hersheys for Haiti,” and a “Hoops for Haiti” basketball fundraiser. Camillus Middle School students raised $565 for the Haitian relief by selling paper hearts with the slogan, “Have a Heart, Help a Haitian.” Students at West Genesee Middle School sold “Hope for Haiti” wristbands and raised more than $860. East Hill students raised more than $1,400 by collecting pennies.
Onondaga Road students set up a jar to collect loose change. They collected $595.35 to be donated to the American Red Cross. Split Rock students donated items to fill 121 zip lock hygiene bags, along with $242 to pay to ship the bags. The fifth-graders packed the bags, using what they had learned about assembly lines in social studies. Stonehedge had two fundraisers that raised a total of $3,268 through a collaboration between students, staff, and a community business. The staff had a coffee social before school and raised $709, while students donated coins and raised $925 — both sums were matched by Sports Physical Therapy of Camillus.
