Free and open to the Public
Artist Statement: “This art show is about art in our life. I’m exhibiting 10 to 12 acrylic paintings and have 10 fabric pieces that match the paintings. Part of the show is t-shirt art. I’m displaying 20 to 30 t-shirts that are unique expressions of color and life. I have picked pictures form different times in my life that have been milestones. It is my life’s closet. Growing up, my closet is where I put things that were important to me. My picture of Nureyev and then my picture of Barishnikov all hung inside my closet. My friends judged people on the clothes they wear. So, my closet was an important part of my social life. I had a goal/competition with my father about t-shirts and sweatshirts. My Dad collected sweatshirts. I wanted 100 T-shirts. I reached my goal. We judge people by the clothes they wear. So why not wear art, art is my best self-expression.” Iroquois club on urban trail

The Healing Muse Journal at Delavan
On Saturday, March 20, artists and writers included in The Healing Muse Journal of SUNY Upstate Medical University will offer a presentation at Delavan Art Gallery from 2 to 4 p.m. The readings and display promise to be interesting given everyday concerns with regard to overall patient health and the art of healing. The event includes servings of light refreshments. Initiated in 2001, the journal’s founding editor, Dr. Bonnie St. Andrews saw the vehicle as “the place where science and the art of medicine would reveal their common purpose: to provide and witness healing, analyzing and accepting the human experience in its commonality and its infinite variety.” Deidre Neilen, editor of The Healing Muse and professor at SUNY Upstate, says The Muse helps to foster stronger communication and understanding with those involved in all aspects of the medical community of caregivers, family and friends.” Included in the presentation at Delavan: poets Linda Loomis and Mary Kathryn Jablonski; writers Linda Tomol Pennisi and Kayleen Wilkinson; and visual artists Yolanda Tooley, Susannah Loiselle and Sarah Averill. Co-hosting the event are Andrea Asprelli, editorial assistant for The Healing Muse, and Sarah Averill, an artist, author and fourth year medical student with a background in urban planning. Copies of the journal will be available for sale. Delavan Art Gallery, 501 West Fayette St., just a block beyond Armory Square, the gallery is free and open to the public. Library’s “community quest” game
To celebrate National Library Week (April 11-17), all of your Onondaga County Public Libraries (OCPL) will host a “Community Quest” from March 15 to April 17. Community Quest is a literary scavenger hunt with a prize drawing on April 21.
Using clues available at the public libraries, you can help the library discover which character has escaped from which well-known book, and which library was the site of the disappearance. All correct entries will be placed in a drawing for one of three gift baskets filled with items and gift cards donated by Friends groups, Wegmans, Regal Cinemas, Barnes and Noble, Manlius Cinema and other retailers. Beginning March 15 written clues about the character, the book, and the library can be found in all public libraries in the county. The clues will change weekly at each library. The deadline to submit solutions to the Community Quest is Saturday, April 17. The drawing for the winners will be held on Wednesday, April 21 at the Central Library. For more information about OCPL’s Community Quest, visit OCPL’s Web site: onlib.org or stop by your local library. A clue to get you started is “never out of print.”
