As a strong final statement to a winter’s work, the Corcoran boys indoor track and field team earned the top spot at Wednesday night’s CNY Counties League American division championship meet at Manley Field House. Overall, the Cougars earned 135 points, just ahead of West Genesee, who took second with 124 points. Nottingham claimed fourth place with 47 points. Antoine Tearney and Jerry Adams both hit the line in 6.86 seconds in the 55-meter dash, though Tearney got credit for the win. Nottingham’s Sean Adams was third in 6.95 seconds. But Adams would win the 300-meter dash outright in 37.19 seconds, with Jordan Moore (37.87 seconds) as the runner-up. Tearney also was second (8.38 seconds) in the 55-meter hurdles, edged out by WG’s Matt Ulrich (8.37 seconds). And in the 4×200 relay, Tearney, Moore, Jerry Adams and Tyler Carter won in 1:35.88, while Nottingham’s quartet of Sean Adams, Delvon Sullivan, Polich Anyek and Patrick VonLueninck took third in 1:38.68. Jalen Sanders gave the Cougars a victory in the long jump, going 19 feet 8 1/2 inches, while Tommy Thompson finished fifth and Sean Adams took sixth. Chris Graham was second in the 600-meter run in 1:28.07 and Corey Graham took fifth. The two Grahams, plus Jordan Moore and Xavier Mangham, were third in the 4×400 relay in 3:43.32, with Nottingham in fourth place. The Cougars also took third in the 4×800 (9:18.28). Brandon Edwards was sixth in the 3,200-meter run. Nottingham earned a win in the shot put as Robert Howard tossed it 48 feet 4 1/2 inches, as Xavier Dupree was fourth (42 feet 4 inches) and Corcoran’s Delvon Shepard was sixth. Two days earlier, Corcoran finished second in the girls CNYCL American meet with 62 points, with Nottingham earning 35 points. Henninger was fifth in the CNYCL National division with 40 points. In the girls 55-meter dash in the American division, Corcoran went 1-2 as Angelice Tearney won in 7.64 seconds and Ashley Ruffin was second in 7.74 seconds. In the 4×200 relay, Tearney, Ruffin, Gwendolyn Thomas and Imani Williams earned another victory in 1:51.68, more than two seconds ahead of the field, as Nottingham got fourth place. Williams then earned her own victory in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches as Bulldog teammates Myadah Kalia and Kiasha Thompson were third and fourth, respectively. The Cougars were third in the 4×400 relay in 4:36.51 as the Bulldogs (4:38.66) claimed fourth place. Corcoran’s Jane McCurn was fifth in the 1,500-meter run, with teammate Maegan Mocete fifth in the 3,000-meter run. Mocete and McCurn helped the Cougars’ 4×800 team finish fourth. Meanwhile, in the National division meet, Henninger saw Tirene Millhouse finish third in the 55 sprint (7.79 seconds) as Deja Thomas took third in the 55 hurdles (9.16 seconds), with Symone Kennedy sixth in the 300. The Black Knights took fifth in the 4×800. Millhouse, Thomas, Kennedy and Seanique Cannon ran to second in the 4×200 relay in 1:53.92, trailing only Rome Free Academy, who won in 1:50.56. Thomas would also get second in the triple jump, going 33 feet 5 1/2 inches.
